Job Description

Position Overview

Orthopaedic Associates is seeking an energetic, self-motivated, and talented Physician Assistant (PA) to join one of Houston’s premier orthopaedic practices. The PA functions as an advanced practice provider under the supervision of a Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon. In this dynamic role, you will examine, diagnose and help formulate treatment plans for patients; obtain histories; perform physical exams; analyze diagnostics; assist in surgical procedures; and provide both inpatient and outpatient care.

Key Responsibilities

  • PEOPLE - 25%
    • Demonstrates leadership as a clinical resource, inter-professional consultant, and patient advocate. Participates in rounds independently or with physicians/surgeons and attends interdisciplinary rounds, as appropriate. (EF)
    • Collaborates to foster healthy relationships in the work environment. Acts as a role model, coaches staff in effective communication, and serves as preceptor for PA students and medical residents, as appropriate. (EF)
    • Communicates organizational information and clinical practices respectfully while advocating for balanced workloads and teamwork. (EF)
    • Collaborates with inter-professional team members to manage and coordinate patient care, advocating for patients and their families. (EF)
  • SERVICE - 20%
    • Coordinates timely patient care among health care providers and ancillary clinicians under a physician’s license, focusing on optimal outcomes. (EF)
    • Collaborates with the inter-professional team to manage and coordinate quality patient care. (EF)
    • Responds promptly to patient questions and triaged issues, providing assistance during emergencies as needed. (EF)
  • QUALITY/SAFETY - 30%
    • Performs independent or delegated functions under physician license, including diagnosis, prescriptive authority, and treatment per guidelines, protocols, or standing orders. (EF)
    • Reviews medications and test reports, responds to critical results, and advises on corrective actions. (EF)
    • Conducts comprehensive health assessments, develops and implements care plans, and evaluates outcomes on defined patient populations. (EF)
    • Assists the team in developing and implementing protocols to ensure patient safety. (EF)
  • FINANCE - 15%
    • Performs accurate and timely documentation in medical records, including diagnosis and CPT coding. (EF)
    • Implements department strategies to achieve financial targets through documentation, efficiency optimization, and resource allocation awareness. (EF)
  • GROWTH/INNOVATION - 10%
    • Leads and identifies opportunities for practice changes and process improvements. (EF)
    • Fosters innovative solutions to enhance patient care or department operations through active participation in projects or committees. (EF)

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant program by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)

Preferred Qualifications

  • One year of clinical and surgical experience preferred
