Key Responsibilities
- Review mortgage loan applications and render decisions within internal and regulatory guidelines.
- Determine the adequacy of income to meet expected financial obligations.
- Ensure potential borrower assets meet closing requirements and are derived from acceptable sources.
- Examine borrower credit, investigate derogatory credit, and assess credit history.
- Review appraisals, documentation, and comparables; set conditions for property inspections if needed.
- Evaluate and assess the collateral and capacity of mortgage loans.
- Approve or reject loan applications or request additional information, documenting reasons per guidelines.
- Complete underwriting functions in accordance with program requirements, company standards, and legal/regulatory guidelines.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of underwriting requirements and investor/governmental guidelines.
- Confirm that documentation, reports, and files are complete and accurate.
- Certify that all lending conditions are satisfactorily met prior to closing.
- Keep management informed of significant issues and suggest improvements to underwriting policies and procedures.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years residential underwriting experience.
- Full understanding of conventional underwriting requirements.
- Working knowledge of financial statements, credit reports, tax returns, and appraisals.
- Knowledge of lending programs, policies, procedures, and standards.
- Possesses sound judgement.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong decision-making and analytical skills.
- Accountability and organizational skills.
- Solid time management skills to set priorities and meet deadlines.
- High attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and general PC applications.
- Familiarity with 10-key and word processing skills.
