Software Development Engineer

Position Overview

The Center for Southeastern Tropical Advanced Remote Sensing (CSTARS) at the University of Miami Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric & Earth Science is seeking a Software Developer to augment the ongoing development of satellite management tools and the creation of new internal applications used in operations management and image processing. This role involves software design and development, innovative end-user web experience enhancements, and devising heuristic solutions for remote-sensing challenges. Position is non-remote and requires U.S. citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze and design software system architecture
• Develop, test, integrate, and debug software applications
• Communicate effectively with CSTARS staff and collaborate within teams
• Conduct presentations and training courses for improved satellite management tools
• Assist with special CSTARS projects and other assigned duties

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field
• Minimum of three (3+) years of directly related software programming work experience
• Proficiency in Windows and LINUX operating systems
• Strong programming and debugging skills with experience in HTML/CSS, TypeScript/JavaScript, C#, and SQL
• Familiarity with Python, Matlab, Java, and Groovy is highly desirable
• Ability to travel occasionally to project and educational meetings
• Knowledge of file and text transfer protocols and image file manipulation
• Must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science with relevant GIS, satellite processing, image analysis, and interpretation experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Fluency in a second language besides English is an advantage
