Job Description

Position Overview

Mechanical Design Release Engineer – The Design Release Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and release of components and subsystems in conventional Automatic and Hybrid Transmissions. The Engineer will work with product design/release engineers and other groups participating in the project to specify and carry out development and will partner with suppliers to complete design and qualify for production, ensuring vehicle program milestones are met/achieved.

Responsibilities: Key Responsibilities

  • Develop technical level specifications for components and subsystems of conventional automatic and hybrid transmissions
  • Check that applicable engineering best practices are correctly implemented
  • Manage the supplier of the components to ensure development milestones are met/achieved (supplier timing)
  • Lead supplier meetings, provide guidance and direction, and oversee development using the appropriate change management system
  • Develop DFMEAs or review supplier DFMEA and assess designs for failure mode robustness
  • Collaborate on root cause analysis of transmission failures and identify the root cause(s)
  • Define DVP&R plans to validate design and changes
  • Deliver the DVRR (Design Validation and Reliability Report) and complete applicable compliance reports
  • Develop documentation and evidence to support program milestone reviews (Project Review, Management Review, TKO, CDR etc.)
  • Ensure appropriate use of tools, norms, test procedures, and acceptance criteria for transmission components
  • Participate in Product Assurance Planning (Program Management) and Quality Problem Solving meetings, and support Supplier Quality during Process Sign-off (PS) and PFMEA reviews
  • Support manufacturing on production-related issues
  • Collaborate with the transmission systems group to address and support any failures using the appropriate tools and processes

Qualifications: Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in an engineering related field
  • Engineering experience in product development, design, and release with a minimum of 2 years of powertrain experience
  • Advanced English
  • Leadership, organization, planning, decision making, and high communication skills
  • Proactive, self-driven, and team-oriented
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure with strategic thinking skills
  • Competency in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GDT)
  • Solid knowledge of the main mechanical components related to transmission assemblies (gears, differentials, cases, etc.) and the related manufacturing technologies
  • Functional knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Preferred knowledge of NX/Teamcenter
