Position Overview

WSP is currently initiating a search for an Entry Level Civil Engineer (Renewables) to join our Power & Energy projects within our Site Development Civil Team – Renewable Energy in Cincinnati, OH (with additional consideration given to Cleveland, OH; Columbus, OH; Indianapolis, IN; Houston, TX; Dallas, TX; Austin, TX; and Las Vegas, NV). Key Responsibilities

  • Support renewable energy site development projects with an emphasis on Solar, Wind, BESS facilities and behind the meter generation for commercial and industrial clients.
  • Collect, compile, and analyze data from physical work sites, surveys, blueprints, GIS, subsurface utilities, maps, hydrologic and geotechnical data for project development, design, and construction.
  • Perform professional civil engineering work and conduct research and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions to ensure conformance with applicable rules, standards, and permits.
  • Assist in developing sites and permitting plans for projects within the energy sector including electrical transmission, solar, and onshore wind projects.
  • Support the development of civil, erosion and sediment control, drainage/stormwater, and utility designs.
  • Prepare permit application documents, engineering design plans, specifications, reports, and cost estimates.
  • Participate in field visits and occasional overnight travel as required.
  • Coordinate with clients and governmental agencies to secure necessary permits and approvals.
  • Contribute to the scoping and development of medium-sized projects.
  • Provide guidance and training to entry-level engineers.
  • Interact confidently and professionally with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients.
  • Stay current with the latest civil engineering techniques and practices.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company resources and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • 1+ years of relevant post-education experience in renewable energy engineering with prior civil design experience.
  • Strong leadership, task management, and communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD with a working knowledge of site grading, stormwater, and erosion & sediment control measures.
  • Understanding of stormwater permitting (NPDES) with multi-state knowledge viewed as a plus.
  • Familiarity with relevant civil construction laws, codes, regulations, and compliance practices.
  • Ability to perform technical computations, interpret plans and specifications, and compare outcomes with applicable regulations.
  • Capable self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills to analyze data and testing results effectively.
  • Proven track record in workplace safety and compliance with WSP’s health, safety, and related policies.
  • Willingness to travel and perform fieldwork, including in rugged terrain, as required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Engineer in Training Certification.
  • Project management experience with small to mid-level projects, including budget and expense tracking.
  • Prior experience in site development projects in renewable energy with client-facing responsibilities.
  • Master’s Degree in Engineering.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (Texas, Ohio, Illinois preferred) with an NCEES record viewed as a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D Software Suite and familiarity with grading and earthwork concepts.
  • Additional task management experience.

Compensation

Expected Salary (all locations): $83,200 - $95,000. WSP USA provides a compensation range based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, adjusted for geographic location and internal equity. Additional benefits and compensation may be offered based on specific circumstances.
