Job Description

Position Overview

The Shift Coordinator is a key part of the chain of service at Salt & Straw. Responsible for delivering a seamless guest experience, this role oversees daily floor operations, guides Scoopers through their shifts, and ensures all tasks—from opening and closing procedures to cash handling and inventory counts—are executed to maintain operational excellence and legendary hospitality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Guide Scoopers throughout the shift by delegating tasks per the daily shift plan and ensuring proper break schedules, station rotations, and safety habits.
  • Support team members with various duties including scooping, waffling, running the register, dishwashing, cleaning, and hosting.
  • Deliver excellent service, resolve guest concerns thoughtfully, and enhance the guest experience through personal interactions.
  • Coordinate opening, closing, and daily tasks to maintain shop flow and standards.
  • Assist in rolling out new training initiatives and provide real-time, operations-based coaching to uphold product quality, guest experience, and shop safety.
  • Accurately pack TPD orders, ensuring items are properly portioned, packaged, and labeled.
  • Ensure adherence to company policies, shop standards, and safety protocols, escalating issues when necessary.
  • Conduct regular inventory counts for ice cream and supplies to maintain product quality and food safety.
  • Assist with daily cash transactions and maintain balanced change banks.
  • Support leadership by maintaining daily logbook information on cash handling, quality control, and team feedback.
  • Taste/sample ice cream daily (including diverse flavors) to communicate flavor profiles effectively to customers.
  • Foster a positive work environment through open communication, active coaching, and by embodying Salt & Straw’s core values.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma/GED.
  • 6+ months of experience in food service, fast-casual dining, or hospitality-focused industry (1+ year preferred).
  • Valid food handlers' card (required within 30 days of the start of employment or per local guidelines).
  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Ability to coach and motivate team members.
  • Excellent communication skills to engage team, guests, and vendors with legendary hospitality.
  • Proactive problem-solving skills and sound judgment in escalating issues when needed.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Fluency in English and flexibility to work evenings, late nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Availability to work at least 3 shifts per week, including 2 closing shifts.
