Job Description
Position Overview
The Outreach Community Educator (English/Spanish Bilingual) at University of California Agriculture and Natural Resources is responsible for supporting small‐scale farmers and food businesses with bilingual outreach and educational programs. Reporting to the Regional Director of Local Farm and Food Innovation, this contract position focuses on engaging Spanish-speaking communities in Fresno, Madera, Merced, Kings, and Tulare Counties, with a primary goal to improve access to resources, tools, and support for local agriculture and food enterprises.
Key Responsibilities
- 30% – Organize and conduct bilingual educational activities in English and Spanish; assist in delivering new course materials to support small-scale farms and food micro-enterprises.
- 25% – Coordinate, promote, and deliver extension workshops in collaboration with the F3 Local team and partners; track participant feedback and refine curricula.
- 20% – Provide bilingual support to F3Local staff by participating in farm visits, events, and community outreach; represent the team in meetings with nonprofit partners, public agencies, and policy stakeholders.
- 15% – Plan and implement outreach strategies to engage socially disadvantaged and Spanish-speaking farmers, maintain contact databases, and lead communications via radio, social media, newsletters, and direct outreach.
- 10% – Represent the F3 Local team in strategic meetings to share insights about community needs and develop new partnership opportunities aligned with project goals.
Required Qualifications
- Associate's degree and/or equivalent certification, experience, or training.
- Experience planning and executing workshops, meetings, and outreach activities.
- Ability to conduct needs assessments and make programmatic recommendations.
- Organizational skills to develop and monitor project plans against established deadlines, including reviewing and analyzing results.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage with diverse audiences and facilitate effective bilingual interactions in English and Spanish.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Community Development, Rural Studies, Agriculture, Agribusiness, or Business Administration.
- Familiarity with the challenges and opportunities faced by small-scale farmers and food businesses.
- Knowledge of agricultural practices, tools, and technologies suitable for small-scale farming.
- Understanding of micro enterprise entrepreneurship and small business support.
- Experience with digital communication tools such as websites, social media platforms, and content management systems.
