Position Overview
Now Hiring: Professional Geologist
Leaaf Environmental is seeking an experienced Professional Geologist to serve as a field‐forward technical leader supporting complex environmental work, including site investigations, underground storage tank (UST) closure activities, and remediation projects. This role is ideal for a licensed professional who values meaningful field involvement while also contributing to technical documentation, regulatory coordination, and staff mentorship.
Location: Baton Rouge or Gretna, Louisiana (hybrid option available)
Compensation: $70,000–$120,000
Experience Required: Typically 5–10+ years
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and execute environmental site assessments, investigations, UST closures/removals, and remediation activities
- Support project scoping, scheduling, cost estimating, and budget management
- Guide and review technical deliverables (e.g., RECAP, CAPs, GWMRs, QAPPs, proposals, and reports)
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulations and standards (LDEQ RECAP, EPA, ASTM, and other federal/state requirements)
- Serve as a primary technical contact for regulatory communications
- Troubleshoot field and data-collection challenges and support quality assurance efforts
- Contribute to development and refinement of field and technical SOPs
- Oversee and mentor scientists, field geologists, GIS personnel, and technical staff supporting projects
- Promote a culture focused on safety, quality, efficiency, and professional development
- Maintain professional and responsive client communication
- Ensure high standards for field documentation, deliverables, and timelines
- Support resolution of escalated technical or field issues in coordination with leadership
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Geology, Environmental Science, or related discipline
- Active Louisiana Professional Geoscientist (PG) license required
- Minimum 5 years of experience in environmental consulting, geology, or remediation
- Demonstrated field leadership experience and strong technical writing capabilities
- Ability to meet position-specific physical requirements and safety compliance expectations
- Valid authorization to work in the U.S. and valid driver’s license; ability to obtain/maintain OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER and TWIC
