Position Overview
The Junior Designer is a valuable entry level engineering team member. In this position you will analyze systems, provide design support on projects to improve Con Edison's electric distribution systems, develop solutions to satisfy our customers electric service needs, produce high quality construction layouts, and update system configuration drawings. To be successful in the position, you must be able to work with diverse teams, learn about Con Edison's distribution system, become proficient with our engineering analysis tools & CAD software, and be able to work both independently and as part of a project team. To be considered for the position, you must meet the position qualifications and successfully complete an aptitude test and in-person structured interview.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct engineering analysis to determine the adequacy of electric distribution system components
- Design projects to reinforce electric distribution system components
- Develop detailed construction drawings including instructions for the installation, maintenance, modification, or removal of system components
- Use computer-aided design (CAD) software to generate engineering prints and construction drawings
- Update prints to capture current system configurations
- Provide engineering support during system emergencies to maintain or restore service to customers
- Selected candidates may be assigned to work in either the Brooklyn, Manhattan, or Westchester based on business needs
Required Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma/GED and 2 years Design Work Experience or Associate's Degree in Electrical, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering Technology.
- Skills and Abilities: Competent in the use of Auto-Cad to generate drawings; Ability to interpret basic information on drawings; Demonstrated problem solving skills; Proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint; Demonstrated analytical skills; Well organized, detail oriented, and flexible to handle multiple assignments; Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Licenses & Certifications: Driver's License Required.
- Physical Demands: Ability to sit or stand while using a keyboard, mouse, and computer; Possess manual dexterity to use hands; Ability to stand and operate office equipment; Must be able to work rotating shifts including nights, midnights, weekends, and holidays.
- Additional Physical Demands: The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment and is expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
