Position Overview
The Commissioning Manager oversees the entire commissioning process to ensure data center systems and components function correctly before the facility goes live. Gilbane, a Top-10 ENR Contractor and family-owned business with 45 offices, is seeking a highly technical leader who excels at communication and teamwork. In this role, you will manage all stages of commissioning on a large construction project, working primarily on-site with occasional travel for trainings and meetings. You will have the opportunity to build critical infrastructure in schools, labs, hospitals, corporate offices, sports arenas, and more while helping shape safe, on-time projects.

Key Responsibilities
- Manages all stages of the commissioning process from initial planning and design reviews to final testing and handover.
- Creates commissioning plans, schedules, test procedures (such as IET and IPVT/IST), and verification checklists.
- Ensures that the facility and its systems comply with design specifications, health and safety standards, and performance requirements.
- Serves as the main point of contact, managing communication between teams, clients, vendors, and subcontractors.
- Prepares and manages documentation including inspection reports, test results, and final certification documents.
- Oversees and performs various tests—such as functional and site acceptance testing—to verify system performance.
- Trains and manages direct reports on process adherence and day-to-day task completion.
- Fosters a positive and inclusive work environment and effectively communicates company and department strategies.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field.
- Experience Required: 10-12 years of data center commissioning experience, with previous hyperscale field construction on data centers or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Leverages business insights to understand industry trends and local market dynamics for making critical decisions.
- Deploys a strategic mindset, taking a broad perspective to address long-term opportunities and risks.
- Demonstrates emotional intelligence and effective communication skills to manage relationships and resolve issues promptly.
- Exhibits leadership by building high-performing teams through motivation, delegation, and coaching.
- Possesses in-depth knowledge of data center systems, including power distribution, cooling, HVAC, and IT equipment; and has the ability to manage schedules, budgets, and multidisciplinary teams.
Benefits & Perks
- Salary: To be determined based on geographic location, skills, education, experience, and internal equity. The pay range is $130,000-$205,000 plus benefits and retirement program.
