Position Overview

Mortgage Financial Analyst Accountant at Magnolia Bank—a community bank that has served Central Kentucky and beyond for over 100 years. In this role, you'll support strategic financial decision-making in our mortgage operations and work closely with various teams. This position reports to the Mortgage Director of Accounting and Finance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive financial analysis and modeling to assess the performance and profitability of mortgage loan portfolios, products, and services.
  • Support the development and presentation of financial reports for senior management, highlighting key trends, risks, and opportunities.
  • Analyze mortgage market trends, interest rates, and economic factors to help predict financial performance and guide strategic decisions.
  • Assist in the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and financial projections for mortgage banking operations.
  • Evaluate loan pricing strategies, profitability metrics, and risk factors to support optimal decision-making.
  • Monitor financial performance against budgets and provide variance analysis with actionable recommendations.
  • Collaborate with underwriting, sales, and operations teams to gather data and insights for financial reporting and analysis.
  • Develop financial models for new mortgage products, ensuring alignment with business objectives and market conditions.
  • Provide ongoing support for audit and compliance processes related to mortgage banking financial operations.
  • Coordinate with external partners and stakeholders, including investors and regulators, to ensure accuracy and integrity in financial reporting.
  • Stay up to date on mortgage banking regulations, industry trends, and best practices to continuously improve analysis processes.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
  • 1-3 years of experience in financial analysis, preferably within mortgage banking or real estate finance.
  • Strong knowledge of mortgage loan products, underwriting processes, and industry regulations.
  • Proficiency in financial modeling and analysis, with advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, v-lookups, data analysis).
  • Familiarity with financial software and systems (e.g., Accounting for Mortgage Banker (AMB), Loan Origination Systems).
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to convey complex data to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Knowledge of financial reporting standards and regulatory compliance within the mortgage industry is a plus.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional certifications such as CFA, CPA, or similar.
  • Experience working with mortgage-related financial data, underwriting, and compliance reporting.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while making immediate, responsible decisions.
  • Extremely detail oriented with excellent communication and organizational skills.
