Job Description

Position Overview

At STERIS, we help our Customers create a healthier and safer world by providing innovative healthcare and life science product and service solutions around the globe. In this role you will be responsible for the conceptual development, management, and final results of complex engineering projects designed to improve operational performance, reduce cost, enhance safety, or establish compliance. You will provide guidance and direction to other Project Engineers and serve as a technical expert for multiple projects across various sites. This is a remote role with the expectation of frequent travel up to 70%.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop project objectives, scope, schedules, and fees by analyzing project requirements and collaborating with Engineering, Sales, and Operations management. Establish detailed project plans from pre-design to completion including budgets, staffing, and schedules.
  • Organize project teams by selecting and orienting team members, delegating tasks, and monitoring the scope and priority of assignments for both internal and outside contractor resources.
  • Plan, organize, and conduct complex technical projects or oversee the development of engineering projects as the technical expert.
  • Conceive, plan, and oversee process equipment evaluations and upgrades.
  • Evaluate, test, and prepare technical analyses and implementation plans for equipment improvements; recommend equipment purchases based on research, testing, and negotiations with vendors and management.
  • Develop and implement process controls to ensure consistent equipment and process performance.
  • Stay informed on new technologies and developments through educational institutions, professional organizations, trade shows, and technical publications.
  • Coordinate or direct engineering/facility projects by resolving operational problems, overseeing testing, reviewing design and safety issues, and managing contracted resources.
  • Obtain technical information for design and development from manufacturers, consultants, and contractors.
  • Perform professional engineering assignments of significant complexity, providing guidance to other Engineering staff as needed.
  • Support a safe, clean, secure, and efficient work environment by enforcing procedures, rules, and safety standards.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations including those related to safety, EPA, OSHA, NFPA, FDA, and applicable building codes.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a technical discipline with a minimum of 10 years’ experience or minimum of 20 years’ experience in lieu of a degree
  • Minimum of 5 years of related experience in complex project management, process improvement, and/or project engineering
  • Ability to read, interpret, and practically apply electrical ladder diagrams and mechanical blueprints
  • Working knowledge of PLC (Programmable Logic Controllers) or other process control equipment
  • Effective reading, writing, and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently under general guidelines and supervision
  • Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets, and other software capabilities
  • Effective interpersonal skills as evidenced by prior management experience
  • Above average organizing, analytical, and Level 4 math skills (including practical applications of fractions, percentages, ratios, proportions, measurements, and basic algebra) to address organizational and regulatory challenges
  • Attention to detail

Preferred Qualifications

  • Able to adapt to changing duties and responsibilities
  • Capable of influencing opinions, attitudes, or judgments and able to evaluate, decide, and adapt to situations under stress
  • Normal hearing sufficient to detect alarms, bells, horns, with standard visual acuity
