Job Description
Our client, a globally recognized leader in automotive innovation and technology, is seeking a highly experienced Senior Automotive Test Engineer to join their advanced research and development center in Columbus, Ohio.
This critical role will be responsible for designing, executing, and analyzing a wide range of vehicle and component tests to ensure product quality, performance, and reliability. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of automotive systems, extensive experience with testing methodologies and equipment, and a strong capability for data analysis and problem-solving.
Responsibilities:
- Design and develop comprehensive test plans and procedures for automotive components and systems, including powertrain, chassis, electronics, and ADAS.
- Execute vehicle and component level tests in laboratory and real-world environments, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and test specifications.
- Operate and maintain various testing equipment, instrumentation, and data acquisition systems.
- Analyze test data using statistical methods and specialized software to identify performance issues, failure modes, and areas for improvement.
- Document test results, findings, and recommendations in detailed technical reports.
- Collaborate closely with design engineers, R&D teams, and quality assurance to troubleshoot issues and provide feedback for design iterations.
- Ensure all testing activities comply with industry standards (e.g., SAE, ISO) and company quality benchmarks.
- Manage testing schedules and resources, ensuring timely completion of projects.
- Stay abreast of new testing technologies, methodologies, and automotive industry advancements.
- Mentor junior test engineers and contribute to the development of best practices within the testing department.
- Participate in design reviews and provide input on testability and validation requirements.
- Support the vehicle development lifecycle from early prototyping through production validation.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree: in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 7 years: of experience in automotive testing and validation, with a strong focus on component or vehicle-level testing.
- Proven experience: with various testing methodologies, including durability, performance, NVH, and environmental testing.
- Proficiency: with data acquisition systems (e.g., CAN, data loggers) and analysis software (e.g., MATLAB, Python, Vector CANalyzer).
- Strong understanding: of automotive systems and components.
- Experience: with laboratory and automotive testing equipment.
- Excellent analytical:, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
- Strong technical writing: and reporting capabilities.
- Effective communication: and teamwork skills.
- Ability: to work independently and manage multiple testing projects simultaneously.
