Vice President, Computational Biology
Job Description
The Role:
ElevateBio Life Edit is looking for a highly motivated, innovative, and experienced leader to head our Computational Biology function. Reporting to the Chief Scientific Officer, this individual will play a central and visible role in advancing our mission by shaping and executing the computational strategy supporting the discovery and development of our best-in-class genomic medicine platform.
Here's What You'll Do:
- Lead, and be supported by, an experienced team of scientists with deep expertise in functional genomics, computational biology, machine learning, and AI.
- As a member of the R&D Leadership Team, contribute to driving our business forward, shaping our scientific strategy, setting R&D goals, and overseeing performance.
- Work closely with the commercial team to support current and future company partnerships, including actively engaging in conversations with external companies.
- Contribute to R&D growth strategy, equipment investment plans, and oversee the departmental budget and headcount.
- Partner with IT to drive the long-term data strategy for R&D to architect and implement scalable, integrated, FAIR-principled data programs that accelerate scientific discovery.
- Provide thought leadership in the application of AI to genomic medicine, both internally, within ElevateBio, and externally through conferences, presentations, and other communication opportunities.
Requirements:
- PhD in bioinformatics, computational biology, statistical genetics, molecular biology, or a related discipline, with deep scientific credibility in genomics, machine learning, and statistics.
- 15+ years of experience in genomics: Including experience with sequencing technologies and genomic data analysis.
- Familiarity with industry regulations and standards: Knowledge of compliance requirements related to genomic research and data management.
- Solid computational and statistical skills, with demonstrated experience in high-dimensional biological data analysis
- Experience applying machine learning to solve problems in biology. Extensive experience in genomics: Including experience with sequencing technologies and genomic data analysis. Experience with genomic medicine or drug development highly desirable.
- Experience in hiring, building, training, and leading high-performance teams
- Excellent negotiation, organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Exceptional project management skills
