Position Overview
As an Aerospace Technician at United Launch Alliance (ULA) located in Cape Canaveral, you will perform work across all phases of launch operations – from vehicle build-up and preparation to launch execution. You will help ensure successful missions by installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, testing, and servicing space vehicles, flight hardware, and ground support equipment. Key Responsibilities
- Perform installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, testing, and servicing of space vehicles, flight hardware, and aerospace ground support equipment.
- Support mechanical, structural, electrical, fluid, and ordnance systems and operate precision machinery and heavy-duty vehicles for safe mission operations.
- Assist in all phases of launch operations, including vehicle erection and alignment, fueling, pressurization, ordnance handling, control system checkout, countdown, and launch execution.
- Conduct test and operational procedures, including setup, installation, calibration, and operation of test tools, consoles, and equipment for functional, verification, and preflight checks.
- Troubleshoot and repair complex mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, fluid, and instrumentation systems for both airborne and ground equipment.
- Perform installation, modification, calibration, and end-to-end checkout of instrumentation, telemetry, and electronic control systems.
- Safely execute rigging, lifting, and movement of space vehicles, equipment, and components using cranes, transporters, and other specialized ground support equipment.
- Operate heavy-duty vehicles (over 2.5 tons) to transport parts and materials between base, customer, and vendor locations, ensuring proper load handling and safety.
- Disarm or troubleshoot ordnance systems in the event of failure, misfire, or malfunction.
- Maintain accurate documentation, records, and inspection reports using precision measuring instruments and established quality standards.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Minimum of 2 years relevant work experience in a mechanical or technical role, or an Associate’s/2-year Technical Degree in a related discipline.
- Ability to obtain and maintain an active DoD Secret Clearance (U.S. Citizenship required).
- Capable of lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 50 lbs frequently; ability to climb and work at heights.
- Willingness to work overtime, adapt to 1st shift (for training) with subsequent shift assignments based on seniority.
- Willingness to travel to other ULA facilities (up to 25% travel) and proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Valid driver’s license with reliable personal transportation for work on a military base.
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in the Aerospace & Defense industry or a related field.
- CDL Class A certification.
- FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) License.
- Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Aerospace Technology or an equivalent degree.
- Experience with electrical systems.
