Job Description

Position Overview

Lumenance is seeking qualified engineers with experience designing wire harnesses and packaging electromechanical items in transportation applications (e.g. automotive, aerospace, specialty vehicles) using CATIA V5/V6. This is a 3-month, fully remote contract position located in Detroit, Michigan (Zip: 48033) with Compensation: DOE.

Key Responsibilities

  • Independently develop professional, manufacturable, cost effective wire harness designs
  • Interface with vehicle or equipment electrical system designers to ensure basic electrical requirements are understood and implemented
  • Develop wire harness routing designs in 3D using CATIA V5/V6, ensuring safe and secure routing as well as proper connection to applicable electrical units and mating harnesses
  • Develop clear, readable wire harness drawings conforming to customer and industry drafting standards
  • Interface with wire harness suppliers to address Design for Manufacturability issues
  • Design brackets and other mounting fixtures to secure wire harnesses and related electromechanical devices in the vehicle

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or a related discipline
  • Above average ability to use CATIA V5/V6 for the design of wire harnesses and related components (e.g. brackets)
  • Solid grasp of mechanical and electrical engineering principles applicable to the design of wire harnesses and vehicle electrical systems
  • Ability to interface with team members (system engineers, test engineers, project managers, etc.) to ensure electrical system functional requirements are achieved
  • Ability to coordinate with other functional areas (interior, engine, transmission, etc.) to consider their design constraints when designing harnesses
  • Excellent technical communication skills in English (both written and oral)
  • Willingness to take initiative and work long hours as required to meet critical project deadlines

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to design plastic and stamped parts independently
  • Basic FEA skills (modal analysis)
