Job Title: Administrative Assistant and Bookkeeper

Reports To: For administrative tasks, reports to the Pastor; for bookkeeping tasks, reports to the Church Treasurer; accountable to the Church Board

FLSA Status: Non‑exempt (hourly)

Work Hours: Part‑time; schedule set by the Church Board (target <30 hrs/week)

Location: Onsite at FMC office

Overview

The Administrative Assistant/Bookkeeper is responsible for providing administrative support to the Pastor and other church staff and, in addition, maintaining accurate financial records for the organization. These roles require strong organizational skills, attention to detail, flexibility, and the ability to handle confidential information while supporting staff, volunteers, and leadership.

  • Provides administrative and secretarial support to the Pastor and church leadership, including pastoral care coordination and reception duties.
  • Manages church records, calendar, correspondence, and office operations.
  • Ensures accurate, timely, and confidential financial administration for FMC.
  • Posts and records contributions, manage day‑to‑day disbursements and reconciliations, prepare monthly financial closings and board reports, support payroll and compliance filings.

Requirements

  • Well-organized and detailed-oriented, with an ability to prioritize among and complete concurrent or conflicting tasks, and a willingness to adopt and adapt to the requested work environment.
  • Ability to write and edit emails, short articles for the newsletter, reports, and social media posts.
  • Integrity and discretion in handling sensitive financial and personal information.
  • Willing to support the mission and goals of First Moravian Church.
  • Extensive experience with Microsoft Word and Outlook; basic knowledge of and a willingness to develop proficiency in Microsoft Excel; Google Drive, Calendar, and Sheets. Familiarity with church membership management software (such as Amplify, Realm, ACS, or Power Church), email marketing/communication platforms (such as Constant Contact or MailChimp), and posting to social media (Facebook and Instagram) a plus.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in bookkeeping and reconciliation.
  • Experience with accounting software and spreadsheets.
  • Ability to produce accurate monthly closes and clear financial reports.
  • Professional communication and customer‑service skills.

Pay

$25.00 per hour

Expected hours

20.0 – 30.0 per week
