Position Overview
General Dynamics Mission Systems is seeking a talented UX-focused Interaction Designer to join our Human Systems Engineering team. In this role, you’ll design intuitive solutions that support our nation’s premier defense and intelligence services, ensuring that the men and women who protect our country have the best tools and experiences. Work in a dynamic, multi-disciplinary environment where no two days are alike.
Key Responsibilities
- Translate complex concepts, research findings, and detailed requirements into elegant design solutions.
- Collaborate regularly with researchers, developers, and other stakeholders.
- Interview subject matter experts and users to gather insights.
- Produce user personas, workflows, journey maps, and other UX artifacts.
- Create and maintain low to high-fidelity wireframes/prototypes across all design phases.
- Defend design decisions with research-based rationale and engaging presentations for stakeholders.
- Design development-ready icons and graphics.
- Contribute actively on project teams to optimize tasks, resources, and deliverables.
- Travel minimally as required.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a related specialized field (or equivalent experience) or Master’s degree.
- Minimum of 2 years relevant experience for Bachelor’s holders; applicable requirements for Master’s degree candidates.
- CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to obtain a Department of Defense Secret security clearance at the time of hire; U.S. citizenship is required.
- Passion for UX with a proven portfolio showcasing design work and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to make informed decisions with minimal direction and communicate effectively.
- Strong understanding of interaction, design, and usability principles.
- Experience owning the design process from wireframes and concepts to final product.
- Expertise with wireframing tools such as Axure, Figma, or Sketch and proficiency in Adobe CC (Illustrator/Photoshop).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to integrate constructive feedback.
- Experience collaborating across disciplines.
Preferred Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in UX/UI design and a graduate degree in a related field.
- Expertise using Axure.
- Experience in planning and conducting user research.
- Experience working in an Agile environment.
- Freehand drawing skills.
- Familiarity with design systems, CSS, and HTML.
