Key Responsibilities

  • Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, set up and maintain a sterile field for surgical procedures.
  • Display the ability to function effectively in surgical cases across multiple services with various surgeons.
  • Organize instruments, equipment, and supplies for maximum efficiency and minimal delays.
  • Participate in a rotational call system to provide continuous availability of patient services.
  • Follow guidelines for setting up sterile fields and instruments for designated procedures.
  • Take initiative to learn new procedures with new physicians, coordinating schedules as necessary.
  • Apply principles of safety and basic anatomy/physiology in assisting with surgical procedures.
  • Assist CSPD personnel with the turnover and assembly of instrument sets, especially during surgical downtimes.
  • Utilize proper sterilization, decontamination techniques, and body mechanics to prevent injuries.
  • Re-stock Operating Room supplies and remove excess or unnecessary equipment as caseload permits.
  • Determine priorities for activities under guidance based on work demands.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, physicians, and team members.
  • Maintain awareness of personal limitations and seek guidance when needed.
  • Report any issues or concerns regarding Operating Room activities to the Assistant Director.
  • Show initiative during surgical downtime by assisting coworkers and other areas with special needs.
  • Display effective time management to minimize room turnover.

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate of a Surgical Technology program or military equivalent training.
  • Certification in Surgical Technology.
  • Current BCLS certification from the American Heart Association.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1 year of Surgical Technologist experience is preferred.
