Job Description

Position Overview

We are seeking a Financial Analyst at Sound Transit. Under general direction, this role provides financial and budgetary analysis support to assigned divisions and projects. The analyst develops operating and capital budgets, prepares variance reports, and supports executive decision-making. This is a term-limited position with an anticipated work assignment of 3 years and 11 months. Compensation: Salary range is $78k to $144k, with a midpoint of $98k. New hires typically receive between the minimum and midpoint, with potential for higher offers based on experience, internal equity, and market conditions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce accurate and timely capital and operating budgets for projects and divisions.
  • Contribute to the development of annual budgets and transit improvement plan documents.
  • Provide comprehensive FP&A services by reviewing and approving financial transactions.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and ad-hoc budget-to-actual variance reports.
  • Present financial data at review meetings and respond to information requests.
  • Monitor expenses, approve account codes and purchase requisitions, and resolve discrepancies in financial records.
  • Review agency agreements for potential financial impacts.
  • Communicate complex data effectively and provide support to management initiatives.
  • Champion Sound Transit’s core values and contribute to a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws, agency policies, and integrate sustainability into business practices.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Public Administration, or a related field with four years of financial analysis experience (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Strong understanding of budgeting processes, financial analysis, general accounting principles, and variance reporting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, and the ability to generate complex financial reports.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with a demonstrated ability to collaborate across teams.
  • Proven problem-solving, research, and analytical skills with attention to detail.
