Location: INDOT’s Central Office, Indianapolis.
Salary: This position traditionally starts at an annual salary of $75,010.00, which may be commensurate with education and experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Planning & Project Management: Serve as a resource for proposal development and the research process; ensure milestones, deliverables, and implementation strategies are accurately established; and assist in the development of strategic planning and resource utilization.
- Program Management: Coordinate division/department programs, interpret relevant laws, regulations, and guidelines, and review program plans for completeness and feasibility.
- Design and Research: Assist in developing programs, research initiatives, and technology plans; review proposals to ensure accuracy and effectiveness.
- Inspection: Organize, conduct, and review engineering investigations and field observations with a defined scope.
- Technical & Data Analysis: Analyze engineering data and help develop technical guidelines, training materials, and other technical documents.
- Testing & Quality Control: Assist with laboratory testing and participate in quality control programs to ensure conformance with design criteria.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree in engineering (civil engineering preferred but not required) from an ABET accredited institution.
- Registered Professional Engineer license in Indiana is required; candidates with an Engineer in Training (EIT)/Fundamentals of Engineering certification working towards licensure may be considered.
- At least four (4) years of experience in engineering, transportation research, or a related field.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Extensive knowledge of civil engineering theories, principles, methods, and the planning, design, or construction of highway/transportation projects.
- Familiarity with federal and state laws, rules, and regulations governing the field, including standards set by AASHTO and ASTM.
- Working knowledge of the Indiana Design Manual, Indiana Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (IMUTCD), and INDOT standard specifications.
- Proficiency with computer aided design and drafting, and with systems such as SPMS, dTIMS, ArcGIS, and WMS.
- Ability to perform complex mathematical computations and prepare detailed engineering design reports.
Preferred Qualifications
- For Bridge Specialization: Ability to use bridge design software such as CONSPAN, RC-Pier, GEOMATH, and Merlin Dash.
- Completion of relevant training courses, including INDOT Bridge Inspection training classes and National Highway Institute courses (e.g., Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges, Fracture Critical Inspection Techniques for Steel Bridges).
