Position Overview
The Medical Assistant is a key member of the patient care team at Advocate Health, supporting physicians and clinicians in delivering high-quality care to ambulatory patients. This full-time position in the Department 01220 AMG Sykes - Internal Medicine requires 40 hours per week and is Benefits Eligible. Salary: $22.90 - $34.35. Compensation: $2500 sign on bonus available after 90 days of hire. Schedule: Advocate Sykes Outpatient Center; Mon: 7:30 AM - 5:00 PM; Tue: 7:30 AM - 5:00 PM; Wed: 7:30 AM - 5:00 PM; Thu: 10:00 AM - 7:00 PM; Fri: 7:30 AM - 5:00 PM; Sat: 8:00 AM - 1:00 PM.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist physicians and other clinicians with clinical duties, including taking medical histories and aiding in physical examinations.
- Act as a liaison between patients, physicians, and other clinicians.
- Measure patients' vital signs.
- Prepare and administer vaccines/medications.
- Document patient information into the electronic health record.
- Collect specimens for testing.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Graduate of a medical assistant program or a minimum of two years of medical assistant experience within the last five years.
- Good communication skills with experience using keyboards and computers.
- Familiarity with equipment used in ambulatory care.
- Current AHA CPR certification.
- Ability to travel locally to multiple sites as needed.
- Ability to work in stressful conditions and challenging situations.
- Resilient and flexible in a changing environment.
- Ability to cooperate and collaborate with others.
- Ability to make sound, timely decisions and work rotating shifts on any day of the week.
- Ability to perform lifting/transfer activities related to patients, including stooping/bending as needed.
- Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For lifts over 35 pounds or when the patient is unable to assist, patient handling equipment should be used with at least one other associate, when available.
