Position Overview
Innovative Defense Technologies (IDT) is a provider of cutting-edge cloud-based integration, automated testing, and data analysis for complex, mission-critical systems within the US Department of Defense. Based in Arlington, VA, the Field Test Engineer will work in a fast-paced, customer-focused team to field, test, and operationalize experimental hardware and software systems. This role involves collaborating with IDT designers to deploy, operate, and troubleshoot advanced solutions that accelerate capability development, enhance operational readiness, and reduce lifecycle costs. All applicants must currently possess an active U.S. Security Clearance.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide operational and maintenance support for deployed software/hardware infrastructure supporting various DoD and Navy testing and experimentation.
- Perform deployment, installation, training, and operational support of new systems across multiple test sites and Navy platforms.
- Coordinate with senior warfighters and government sponsors to plan, schedule, and accomplish installation checkouts, operational testing, and mission execution.
- Review software designs, generate test plans and procedures, and troubleshoot discrepancies during test events.
- Communicate directly with customers and users to understand needs and drive resolution of technical challenges during test events.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or other STEM field; or equivalent full-time professional experience.
- 1-3 years of related experience in a mission-critical environment.
- Ability to learn unique hardware/software deployment configurations and provide on-site operational support.
- Hands-on experience in deploying and maintaining applications under mission-critical conditions.
- Effective communication skills to interact with senior warfighters and test leads.
- Proficient in troubleshooting systems, networks, and processes to ensure expected performance.
- Willingness and ability to travel up to 50%.
- Strong team-centric execution, adaptability, and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with complex Navy surface warfare systems and applications in an operational setting.
- System integration and test experience for tactical applications (e.g., Aegis Weapon System, CEC, Link16).
- Familiarity with Aegis Weapon System or NAVSEA tactical applications.
- Demonstrated knowledge in Software Engineering, IT, and Networking.
- Experience running and testing large, complex software systems, particularly in DoD or distributed environments.
- Proficiency in coding or scripting using Python, Java, C++, or other languages.
Benefits & Perks
- Compensation: $74,000 - $116,000 or $90,000 - $150,000, commensurate with experience. (Note: This does not include bonuses, commissions, or other benefits.)
