Job Description
Position Overview
The Patient Transporter is responsible for coordinating with doctors, nurses, and other medical professionals to assist patients throughout the hospital. This includes helping patients in and out of bed, moving them using wheelchairs or stretchers, and maintaining logs of time sensitive specimens and supplies between facilities. Location: Touro Schedule: Evenings (United States of America)
Key Responsibilities
- Safely and professionally transports patients to units, testing areas, and designated areas on campus.
- Remains with discharged patients until their ride arrives and transports patients to the discharge center during operational hours.
- Lifts bed rails and places the nurse call button near the patient after repositioning them in bed.
- Utilizes proper body mechanics when lifting, pulling, or pushing patients to prevent injury or damage.
- Keeps patients informed and provides periodic updates as appropriate.
- Contributes to the organizational goal of patient throughput within the scope of the position.
- Delivers medical items to nursing units in a timely manner as requested by the House Supervisor.
- Escorts visitors, patients, or other staff to the appropriate areas of the hospital.
- Advises the supervisor of current or anticipated problems and uses time and resources effectively.
- Resolves scheduling conflicts with peers and other staff.
- Accepts assignments willingly and completes them in a timely fashion.
- Uses the time and attendance system appropriately and adheres to related policies and procedures.
- Reports any compliance issues, especially those concerning fraud and abuse, immediately.
- Actively promotes and supports performance improvement initiatives, including ongoing education and cultural change.
- Communicates clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, while using positive non-verbal cues.
- Adheres to LCMC Health policies, procedures, and the Code of Conduct, ensuring ethical performance of duties.
- Documents appropriately according to departmental and organizational policies.
- Applies job knowledge to improve work processes.
- Utilizes the service recovery process to address customer concerns or complaints.
- Treats all customers with dignity, respect, courtesy, and compassion.
- Identifies customer needs and proactively works to solve problems.
- Interacts with patients, families, visitors, and colleagues to ensure a professional and courteous environment.
- Ensures all transportation equipment is located, retained, and returned properly after use.
- Collects and returns wheelchairs and ensures that stretchers and oxygen tanks are properly handled to avoid damage.
- Attends monthly department meetings, completes projects prior to meetings, and makes suggestions on agenda items.
Required Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma/GED or equivalent OR 2 years of work experience.
- Qualifications: Basic Life Support Health Care Provider (CPR, BLS) - American Heart Association.
