Total Compensation
The total compensation for this position is $60,000 to $61,500 per year. It is expected that the total compensation would be near the top end of that range. The total compensation comes from an hourly rate of $28.85/hr. ($60,000/yr.), and a quarterly bonus that has historically ranged from $350-400 (around $1,500/yr.) If required by management to work beyond 40 billable hours per week, that overtime is paid at $43.28/hr. This would increase total compensation.
About the Role
Are you looking for something different every day? The Special Testing group performs the most varied type of work at ATS. This group is responsible for all forms of mechanical testing that doesn’t quite fall under the typical routine tests that we most commonly perform. This group is responsible for a variety of custom tests, as required by our customers. From designing and building a custom test fixture that applies 5 independent loads on a component to cyclic fatigue testing to failure at high temperature. This position provides the opportunity to do something different every day.
In this position you will research and work with your customer to plan, design, and develop test fixturing in order to perform a variety of mechanical tests. Much of this testing is performed in house using our extensive equipment resource.

Description
The engineer will work within our Special Testing Department out of the Marietta, Georgia location. The primary focus will be on support of product testing, load testing fatigue testing, and the associated reporting and documentation. This position will report to the Special Testing Manager.
Your Responsibilities
- Working with other staff with the testing of products for compliance with standards and / or client test procedures.
- Work directly with customer to implement the testing required. You shall be available to correspond with current and potential customers promptly.
- Design and creation of test fixtures for new customers to meet customer test requirements.
- Utilizing Solid Works for drafting of fixture components for machining and fabrication.
- Writing test reports in accordance with our quality procedures.
- Develop test plans/work orders and work progress.
- Responsible for ensuring that company quality requirements are adhered to.
- Responsible for preparing and/or approving test reports.
- Responsible managing job costs and ensuring that invoicing is completed.
- You shall have a growth mindset. This requires you to familiarize yourself with the Special Testing Teams current capabilities and strive to expand capabilities.
Requirements
- Applicants must have a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Mechatronics or in a directly related field.
- This job will require some travel, both local day jobs and out of town. A reasonable expectation is 10-20% travel with overnight stays as required.
- The candidate must have a very strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to design and build.
- A working knowledge of Solid Works.
- A working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Must have strong hands-on skills. Prior exposure to machine shop equipment is a plus.
- Ability to occasionally work in excess of 40 hours per week.
- Must be able to meet the physical demands of climbing ladders and be able to lift 80lb.
- Strong leadership skills and ability to work unsupervised.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Ability to multi-task and work in a growing environment.
- The candidate is expected to demonstrate the capacity to build. This may include a history of various mechanical hobbies and/or prior job experiences.
- The candidate must be an “outside the box” thinker. Capable of using existing equipment and facilities in new and inventive ways to accomplish required tasks.
- The candidate must be able to work directly with the customer to achieve the customers goals.
- The candidate must be able to independently seek definition, evaluate, analyze, and then realize mechanical designs based on customer requirements.
- Project management experience to include developing schedules and delegating tasks to other team members. This includes working with machinists, technicians and other engineers.
- Experience directing and overseeing manufacturing of fixturing.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with ability to present to diverse audiences.
- Ability to work in a results-oriented and high-performance team environment, and ability to work independently.
- Experience in creating mechanical product design definition to include 3D solid models and mechanical drawings.

Physical Requirements
This job may be physical at times. The ability to lift objects up to 80 lbs. is required. The candidate must be capable of climbing ladders, working on elevated platforms and tolerating confined spaces at infrequent times. This job will require working in a variety of environments including office, laboratory, manufacturing facilities, industrial sites, and construction sites.
