Job Description

Overview

A boutique geotechnical engineering firm in Houston is looking for a Senior Geotechnical Engineer who wants to join a small, collaborative, and highly autonomous team. The firm recently reached out about this role, which stands out from the typical opportunities in the Houston market. This organization prides itself on a genuine family‑feel culture-built on trust, direct communication, and hands‑on leadership rather than processes, layers, or corporate structure. It is an ideal environment for engineers who want to stay technical, make independent decisions, and have a visible impact on the success of the business.

Why This Opportunity Stands Out

  • True Work-Life Balance
Consistent 40‑hour workweeks, with no late evenings or hidden overtime expectations.
Leadership prioritizes realistic workloads and healthy schedules.
  • High Autonomy & Zero Micromanagement
Engineers are trusted to run their work independently.
No tracking pressures or unnecessary reporting.
Direct access to ownership and decision-makers.
  • Flexibility & Supportive Culture
    Flexibility is offered wherever possible.
A small-team environment with leadership actively involved in projects.
Fast decision-making without red tape or multi‑layered approval processes.
  • Clear, Meaningful Impact
The Senior Geotechnical Engineer will see their contributions directly influence the firm's performance, project quality, and reputation in the market.

Key Responsibilities

The Senior Geotechnical Engineer will:

  • Lead geotechnical investigations, analyses, and the preparation of engineering reports.
  • Provide mentorship to junior engineers and field staff as needed.
  • Coordinate directly with clients, project managers, and lab/field personnel.
  • Apply strong technical judgment to deliver practical, constructible solutions.
  • Work with a high degree of independence while collaborating closely with leadership.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • 5-10+ years of geotechnical engineering experience.
  • Licensed PE in Texas, or the ability to obtain licensure within a reasonable timeframe.
  • Solid technical foundation in soil mechanics, foundation systems, and geotechnical analysis.
  • Someone who values autonomy, clear communication, and a team-oriented environment.
  • A preference for a role that remains hands‑on technical rather than bureaucratic.

Next Steps

This position is well‑suited for someone seeking a refreshing alternative to the typical corporate structure-offering autonomy, flexibility, and a meaningful role within a boutique firm. Interested candidates are encouraged to schedule a brief conversation to learn more about the team, the project portfolio, and the culture.
