Job Description

Position Overview

Join Degenkolb Engineers as an Entry-Level Structural Engineer | Designer, where you will help create safe and beautifully built environments through expert engineering consultation. This role is available in multiple offices: Location: Los Angeles, Orange, Sacramento, San Diego, San Francisco (California), Seattle, WA, Detroit and Grand Rapids, MI. As an ideal candidate, you are a high-achieving master’s student with an undergraduate GPA of 3.40 or above and a passion for structural engineering, seismic analysis, and/or steel design. You will benefit from professional development, mentorship, and a training period designed to prepare you for the Professional Engineering (PE) licensing exam.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review architectural and structural drawings for new and existing structures to provide structural design and analysis.
  • Prepare engineering calculation packages, including assumptions and narratives to justify the design methodology.
  • Assist in solving client construction challenges by coordinating with various disciplines, responding to RFIs, reviewing submittals, and performing construction engineering.
  • Gain exposure to new concepts in construction and enhance your practical engineering skills.

Required Qualifications

  • MS in Structural Engineering OR BS in Civil Engineering with a structural emphasis coupled with 1-2 years of relevant, post-degree, full-time work experience.
  • Undergraduate GPA of 3.40 or higher.
  • Professional communication skills.
  • Current authorization to work in the United States for any employer.
  • Submission of unofficial transcripts (undergraduate and graduate, as applicable).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Passing grade on the FE exam.
  • Familiarity with software programs such as AutoCAD, Tekla, RISA, RAM, Revit, Excel, MathCAD, SAP2000, ETABS, Python, or similar.
  • Demonstrated leadership potential.
  • Experience in seismic engineering analysis and building design is a plus (for non-Michigan offices) or expertise in steel design (for Michigan locations).
