Mechanical Piping Designer

Position Overview

Way Mechanical is a leading Mechanical Contractor based in Houston, Austin, San Antonio, Dallas, Nashville, Charlotte, and Raleigh. We specialize in commercial air conditioning, plumbing, and mechanical piping, as well as the maintenance of these systems. Our expertise spans design-build/design-assist, preconstruction, commissioning, building information modeling (BIM), and quality control. We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Piping Detailer to join our Nashville office, a role crucial for producing coordinated and constructable piping layouts that ensure project accuracy, efficiency, and success in field installation.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and coordinate details of mechanical piping modes and layouts using AutoCAD, Fabrication CADmep, and Revit.
• Perform clash detection and system coordination using Navisworks Manage to ensure cross-discipline accuracy.
• Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and designs to produce fabrication-ready spool constructability.
• Collaborate with lead detailers, project managers, engineers, and field personnel to ensure constructability.
• Support BIM coordination meetings and contribute to resolving design/field issues.
• Maintain drawing accuracy, version control, and compliance with company detailing standards.

Required Qualifications

• Strong understanding of commercial HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical piping systems.
• Proficiency in Navisworks Manage, Fabrication CADmep, AutoCAD, and Revit.
• Working knowledge of Bluebeam and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to interpret construction documents, equipment submittals, and engineering drawings.
• Previous construction field or fabrication shop experience is highly preferred.
