Key Responsibilities
- Develop HVAC and plumbing design concepts for medium and large commercial and industrial projects.
- Collaborate with clients to understand project technical requirements for HVAC and plumbing systems.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to balance technical, schedule, and cost requirements.
- Conduct trade studies to select and evaluate the best design approaches to fulfill requirements.
- Oversee the generation of engineering drawings using common GD&T practices.
- Oversee the generation of engineering specifications in MasterSpec format.
- Mentor junior engineers and designers to develop high-quality and technically sound designs.
- Support construction via RFI responses and submittal reviews.
- Generate task plans and support proposal efforts.
- Demonstrate good communication skills, both oral and written.
- Work autonomously as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
- Communicate project goals in “solution” or project goal terms.
- Provide leadership to the work group through specialized technical knowledge when required.
- Work on advanced, complex technical projects or business issues requiring state-of-the-art technical or industry knowledge.
- Prepare/review complex engineering calculations.
- Review and mark-up complex drawings.
- Prepare/review technical reports and specifications.
- Assess the constructability of design drawings and perform plan in-hand checks of project documents.
- Perform other duties as directed by project managers and upper management, demonstrating decisive critical thinking.
- Exhibit strong written and verbal communication skills related to the field and projects.
Required Qualifications
- Solid background in mechanical engineering design drawing generation.
- Proficiency in detailed HVAC load modeling, psychrometric analyses, duct static pressure calculations, and comprehensive plumbing and HVAC system analyses.
- Ability to plan tasks and execute according to an established schedule.
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience in HVAC and plumbing.
- Must be a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) to be considered for this role.
- Working knowledge of ANSI Y14.5 drawing standards and geometric tolerances.
- Experience in complex industrial HVAC design using natural and forced ventilation, DX cooling/heat pumps, chillers, and boilers.
- Experience in designing chilled and hot water systems.
- Strong HVAC controls design experience including development of controls diagrams, matrices, and sequences of operation.
- Experience in complex industrial plumbing system design (sanitary/domestic water/natural gas) with a solid working knowledge of relevant codes.
- Experience in selecting grease interceptors and oil/water interceptors.
- Working knowledge of Revit highly preferred.
