Job Description

Position Overview

Oak Street Health is seeking a dedicated Medical Assistant responsible for gathering essential patient information to support providers in making informed healthcare decisions. Working closely within a dynamic care team, you will ensure efficient patient flow and contribute to an exceptional patient experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure an efficient patient flow by rooming patients promptly, recording vital signs, completing screenings, and conducting medication reviews.
  • Inventory supplies and stock exam rooms.
  • Respond to patient telephonic requests (e.g., lab results, faxing records to specialists).
  • Administer vaccinations and perform point-of-care tests (such as A1C, spirometry, EKGs, blood draws) as permitted by state regulations.
  • Import required documents into the EMR via scanning or PDF upload.
  • Participate in care team meetings to discuss patient care and clinic operations.
  • Process orders for durable medical equipment.
  • Request medical records from external providers as needed.
  • Conduct routine quality control checks including infection control measures and maintaining center lab standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • State or national certification (or graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program).
  • Minimum of 1 year experience as a Medical Assistant.
  • CPR or BLS Certification.
  • Experience with Electronic Medical Records.
  • Proficiency with computer applications (e.g., Gmail, MS Word/Google Docs, Excel/Google Sheets).
  • Ability to communicate in non-English languages as required by the center's demographics.
  • US work authorization.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of three years in a Medical Assistant role.
  • Demonstrated mastery of workflow in previous positions.
  • An appetite for expanded responsibilities and greater clinical experience.
  • At least 2 years of experience working with geriatric patients.
  • Phlebotomy Technician Certification.
