Our client is seeking a highly accomplished Principal Chemical Process Engineer
to join their innovative, fully remote team. This role is pivotal in driving the design, optimization, and scale-up of complex chemical processes across various industries. You will leverage your extensive expertise to tackle challenging projects, develop novel solutions, and mentor junior engineers, all within a flexible, work-from-anywhere environment.
As a Principal Chemical Process Engineer, you will be responsible for
leading process development initiatives, conducting feasibility studies, and ensuring the safety, efficiency, and economic viability of chemical manufacturing operations. Your work will involve conceptual design, detailed engineering, troubleshooting operational issues, and implementing process improvements. This position requires a deep understanding of chemical engineering principles, advanced simulation tools, and a strong commitment to sustainable practices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the conceptual design and development of new chemical processes and plant modifications.
- Perform process simulation, modeling, and optimization using industry-standard software (e.g., Aspen Plus, HYSYS, PRO/II).
- Develop Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), and equipment specifications.
- Conduct hazard and operability studies (HAZOP), risk assessments, and safety reviews to ensure process safety.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex process-related issues in existing manufacturing facilities.
- Evaluate and implement new technologies and process improvements to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and minimize environmental impact.
- Oversee pilot plant operations and assist with scale-up activities from lab to commercial production.
- Provide technical expertise and guidance to project teams, operations personnel, and management.
- Ensure compliance with relevant industry regulations, codes, and standards.
- Mentor and develop junior chemical engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence.
- Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including R&D, operations, maintenance, and project management.
- Stay current with advancements in chemical engineering, catalysis, separation technologies, and process control.
Qualifications:
- Master's or Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in chemical process design, development, and scale-up.
- Expertise in process simulation and modeling software.
- Strong knowledge of chemical thermodynamics, kinetics, transport phenomena, and reaction engineering.
- Proven experience with safety analysis techniques (e.g., HAZOP, LOPA).
- Experience with various unit operations (e.g., distillation, reaction, filtration, heat exchange).
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Strong project management and leadership abilities.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, suitable for a remote work environment.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license is highly desirable.
- Experience in the pharmaceutical, specialty chemical, or petrochemical industries is a plus.
