Job Description

Position Overview

Our client is a well-established oil and gas operator known for safety, innovation, and technical excellence. With decades of field experience and a strong commitment to environmental responsibility, they partner closely with regulators, communities, and industry leaders to deliver high-quality energy projects across California.

They are seeking a Petroleum Field Engineer — an early-career professional eager to gain hands-on experience in both office and field operations. The successful candidate will play a critical role in the design, permitting, execution, and performance monitoring of oil and gas well projects while ensuring the highest safety and environmental standards are met.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and engineer well projects including drilling, workover, completion, and abandonment operations
  • Develop detailed project plans, vendor recommendations, and cost estimates
  • Prepare and submit regulatory permit applications (CalGEM, DOGGR, BLM, County)
  • Oversee field execution, monitor project performance, and troubleshoot issues
  • Conduct analyses of budgets, schedules, and safety metrics for continuous improvement
  • Prepare technical reports, economic evaluations, and client-ready presentations
  • Coordinate communication among internal teams, clients, contractors, and regulators
  • Mentor field and project staff, promoting a culture of safety and accountability
  • Support leadership with project planning, proposals, and operational strategy initiatives

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering or a related field
  • 2+ years of oil and gas industry experience, preferably with exposure to drilling, completions, or abandonment projects
  • Experience with California permitting or other regulated environments preferred
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Professional presence with an ability to interface effectively with clients and regulators
  • Self-motivated and adaptable with strong attention to detail
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to field sites

Work Environment

  • Full-time, Exempt
  • Field and office-based role with typical hours Monday through Friday (8–12-hour shifts)
  • Must be able to traverse uneven terrain, lift up to 25 lbs, and wear PPE in a field environment
