Job Description

Position Overview

Provides leadership and direction for the materials functions to meet operational requirements in a safe and timely manner, while maximizing service levels and optimizing cost. Responsible for managing inventory, third party service providers, the order process, warehousing, materials planning, and the warranty process for locomotives and rail car materials.

Key Responsibilities

  • Communicate with customers regularly to understand their needs.
  • Manage inventory and third party service providers (cycle counts, stocking levels, obsolescence, warranty, quality, and packaging) to ensure material availability and service.
  • Oversee the order process, including forecasting, requisitioning, order placement, and scheduling of deliveries.
  • Manage warehousing and storage requirements to optimize safety, organization, efficiency, and space.
  • Plan material requirements for program work, maintenance, modifications, and external parties.
  • Ensure timely and proper delivery and handling of materials by union, operations, or third parties.
  • Optimize transportation and logistics for the delivery of products and services.
  • Improve work processes and systems by maximizing opportunities for automation.
  • Manage teams of union and/or non-union employees as required.
  • Communicate safety awareness, implement safety programs and training, and enforce protocols to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Oversee the entire warranty process for locomotives and rail cars from initial claim to resolution.
  • Perform miscellaneous activities and responsibilities as assigned by management.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree/4-year Degree with 3 or more years of experience in Purchasing/Procurement, Materials/Inventory Management, Transportation, Logistics, Rail Operations, Supply Chain Management, or Basic Warehousing; OR High School Diploma/GED with 8 or more years of experience in Materials/Inventory Management in the Railroad industry.
  • Experience managing materials functions within a safety-focused environment, including inventory control, order processing, and vendor management.
  • Proven ability to oversee warranty processes for locomotive and rail car materials.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree/4-year Degree with 3 or more years of experience in related fields and 3 or more years of supervisory experience.
  • Certified Production and Inventory Manager (CPIM) and/or Certified Professional in Supply Chain Management (CPSM).
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, understanding of financial concepts, and leadership capabilities.
