Job Description

Position Overview

Wieland Group is a global leader in the supply of semi-finished copper and copper alloy products committed to innovation and sustainability since 1820. In this role, you will support plant operations, process improvements, capital projects, design file maintenance, and personnel development – all contributing to improved plant performance and profitability. You will work under the direction of the Manager, Annealing & Slitting; this position is Full-time, Non-exempt, and based in Buffalo, NY 14207 (relocation required if not local).

Key Responsibilities

  • Engineer and design modifications to existing equipment to improve production and reduce maintenance costs.
  • Direct and coordinate major overhauls and rebuilds to improve quality and yield while maintaining minimal downtime.
  • Communicate and coordinate equipment maintenance requirements and activities with the maintenance department, incorporating input from equipment operators and maintenance staff.
  • Oversee preventive maintenance activities, including long-range planning to ensure optimal production and utilization of equipment.
  • Coordinate with contractors on design and implementation of new equipment, ensuring adherence to maintenance and replacement parts requirements.
  • Maintain equipment compliance with local, state, and federal regulations as well as insurance company standards.
  • Direct and coordinate bargaining unit employees while promoting a safe, healthy, and well-organized workplace in accordance with company policies and contracts.

Required Qualifications

  • Active participation in continuous improvement programs (ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 50001, 9001, IATF 16949) including the near miss program.
  • Demonstrated experience in containerizing and labeling universal wastes (including batteries, lamps, and spent aerosol cans).
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a related field.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
