Job Description

Position Overview

The Curriculum Designer 1, Fine Arts will develop Houston ISD’s New Education System (NES) curriculum in Fine Arts – including music, dance, theater arts and/or visual arts. This role involves creating teacher-facing curriculum materials such as slide decks with guidance, Demonstration of Learning (DOL), student activities, and differentiated assignments aligned with daily learning objectives. Located at Hattie Mae White in the Fine Arts Department (District Wide), the position also serves as a liaison between campuses and district-level arts events.

Key Responsibilities

  • NES Curriculum Development: Design and create curriculum materials (slides, activities, assessments, and differentiated assignments) for assigned content areas with alignment to the NES model and Houston ISD’s educational objectives.
  • Curriculum Evaluation: Evaluate curriculum through a sensitivity lens to ensure grade-level appropriateness and cultural relevance.
  • Participation in Brain Trusts (PLC): Collaborate in sessions to share expertise and ensure clarity and alignment of lesson documents.
  • TEKS-Driven Professional Development: Attend training sessions to internalize state standards and ensure lessons align with the NES model.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other job-related assignments as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • At least 3 years’ experience in the district/central office of a large urban school district.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

  • Salary Range: $90,000.00 – $110,000.00
  • Contract: 12 Months
