School-Based Virtual ASL Interpreter - Remote | WFH

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitate effective communication between American Sign Language (ASL) and spoken English across diverse K-12 educational environments.
  • Cultivate meaningful interactions among deaf and hard-of-hearing students, their peers, teachers, and education staff.
  • Collaborate with educational teams to ensure the precise delivery of curriculum content.
  • Participate in the creation and implementation of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
  • Prepare for sessions by thoroughly reviewing course materials and familiarizing yourself with subject-specific terminology.
  • Uphold strict confidentiality concerning student information while adhering to professional ethical standards.
  • Engage in educational team meetings and pursue continuous professional development opportunities.

Required Qualifications

  • Exceptional fluency in both ASL and English.
  • In-depth knowledge of deaf culture and age-appropriate educational methodologies.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication capabilities.
  • Flexibility to adapt interpreting styles to accommodate various subjects and student needs.
  • Willingness to work across different grade levels as needed.
  • EIPA score of 3.5 or higher (required).
  • Oregon state certification in educational interpreting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in ASL Interpreting, Deaf Education, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of interpreting experience in K-12 educational settings.
