Job Description
Position Overview
The Assistant Mechanical Engineer will work under the supervision of a licensed professional engineer to assist project teams in creating world class designs for new projects, alterations, and redevelopments across a variety of sectors including power, process, corporate, healthcare, pipeline, airports, institutional, industrial, manufacturing, government, and military facilities. The role involves collaborating with the project team throughout the design and construction process, adapting mechanical plans according to budget constraints, design factors, or client needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Assists in the mechanical design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion.
- Modifies and reviews production drawings for projects including power plants, process facilities, industrial facilities, healthcare facilities, airports, educational institutions, commercial, and governmental/military facilities.
- Designs mechanical components based on project requirements set by project managers.
- Applies basic mechanical engineering/design concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures.
- Assists with research and compiles project-related data as required by project managers.
- Corrects and updates drawings using multiple CAD-related software to verify necessary changes.
- Supports client presentations, shop drawing reviews, and contract administration for design projects.
- Performs field inspections, measurements, or calculations for public and private clients.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Complies with all policies and standards.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field from an ABET accredited program OR a Bachelor Degree in Mechanical or related Engineering Technology with successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
- Basic knowledge in standard mechanical engineering techniques, principles, and procedures.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment with demonstrated critical thinking skills.
- Proficiency in computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite) and familiarity with AutoCAD, BIM (Revit), 3D Rendering Programs, hydraulic analysis, and HVAC analysis programs.
- Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated leadership skills.
- Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently (i.e., without time limitations, restrictions, or the need for work sponsorship) in the country where this position is located.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior internship and/or related consulting experience.
- Engineers in Training (EIT Certification).
- Minimum of a 3.0 GPA.
- Involvement on campus or in the community.
