Job Description
Position Overview
The Per Diem Staff Nurse in the Operating Room provides professional nursing care to people of all ages and their families. This role utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, intervene, evaluate, and document care while formulating nursing diagnoses to treat actual or potential health problems. The nurse is responsible for teaching, counseling, delegating appropriate tasks to assistive nursing personnel, and displaying professional practice in line with The Brooklyn Hospital Center's standard of care and institutional mission and goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide professional nursing care to patients in the Operating Room
- Utilize the nursing process to assess, plan, intervene, evaluate, and document patient care
- Formulate nursing diagnoses for treating actual or potential health problems, and provide teaching and counseling
- Delegate appropriate tasks to assistive nursing personnel
- Display professional practice in accordance with the hospital's standard of care and mission
Required Qualifications
- Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing
- One (1) to two (2) years of operating room experience in an acute care setting
- Current New York State Licensed Registered Professional Nurse
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient computer knowledge and application skills with ALLSCRIPTS, EPIC, and Microsoft Excel
- Ability to communicate in a therapeutic and professional manner
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university - HIGHLY PREFERRED
- Certified Operating Nurse (CNOR) - Preferred
