Job Description

Position Overview

The Accountant II is a key member of Ally’s Controller's Team reporting to the Mortgage Accounting Manager. In this role, you will provide accurate, timely, and relevant financial information to support Mortgage Accounting, Reporting, and Operations. You will consolidate data for quarterly and annual financial statements, support the month-end close process, and assist with accounting activities for the mortgage loan portfolio. Additionally, you will participate in transformation initiatives as Ally transitions to the new Workday ERP.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the month-end accounting close process (ensure timely completion of recurring/non-recurring journal entries, review general ledger accounts, and prepare key reporting processes).
  • Ensure completeness and accuracy of account reconciliations and proper use of general ledger accounts.
  • Prepare select disclosures in support of external reporting processes.
  • Manage Real Estate Owned (REO) portfolio accounting and ensure SOX compliance over designated processes and controls.
  • Coordinate with functional areas such as Mortgage Servicing Operations, FP&A, and Risk.
  • Assist with Workday ERP transformation initiatives.
  • Execute special projects as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree is required.
  • Minimum of 1+ year of work experience in Accounting or a related field.
  • Strong general accounting skills with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Exhibit a strong work ethic, sound communication skills, and the ability to organize data and perform independent analysis.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision and manage moderately complex tasks.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in Accounting is preferred.
  • CPA (or equivalent) and/or MBA credentials are a plus.
  • Workday ERP experience and advanced MS Excel skills (pivot tables, v-lookups, etc.) are highly desirable.
