Principal Machine Learning Engineer, Trust & Safety

Position Overview

At Pinterest, millions of people discover creative ideas every day. As a Principal Machine Learning Engineer, you will serve as the Principal Technical Lead for the Trust Engineering team, setting technical strategy, unifying technical architecture, and defining a roadmap for industry‐leading methodologies. You will leverage deep expertise in machine learning—including deep learning architectures, generative AI, and responsible AI—to ensure Pinterest’s technology delivers on its commitment to a safe and positive user experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop strong partnerships with product teams to understand and proactively address future technology needs and developer pain points.
• Champion and drive large-scale, cross-functional initiatives to improve the trust and safety of our platform.
• Serve as the “customer representative” for engineers on Trust, representing needs to leadership and prioritizing projects to ensure a world-class experience.
• Mentor team members and establish best practices, processes, training, and tools to scale leadership.
• Ensure solid technical plans are in place for Trust projects and act as the technical point of contact for cross-functional partners such as policy, operations, and legal.

Required Qualifications

• Deep expertise in building large-scale ML systems with modern frameworks.
• Passion for building responsible, quality-first discovery surfaces.
• Proven track record of delivering large, cross-functional projects across multiple organizations.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to collaborate across teams.

Benefits & Perks

• Compensation: $249,900—$480,238 USD; this position is also eligible for equity.
• In-office collaboration required 1 time per quarter, allowing flexible remote work outside of these meetings.
