Job Description

Position Overview

The Cybersecurity Analyst II position at the Texas Department of Public Safety is responsible for performing complex cybersecurity analysis with a focus on the development and implementation of cybersecurity policies, standards, and guidance. The role involves coordinating risk management processes, conducting risk assessments and vulnerability analyses, and communicating findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Compensation: $7,500.00 - $8,000.00 (Monthly).

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform Cyber Risk Management processes including risk assessments, control assessments, and vulnerability management across the agency.
  • Conduct cybersecurity risk analysis and manage information security programs.
  • Evaluate threats and vulnerabilities to recommend additional safeguards and escalate findings to the Cyber Risk and Vulnerability Manager.
  • Provide input for strategic plans, roadmaps, and project prioritization to mitigate organizational risks.
  • Document residual risks and ensure creation of Plans of Action and Milestones (POA&M) when necessary.
  • Assess systems based on their operational environment and sensitivity levels.
  • Communicate complex security risks and solutions to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Collaborate with IT teams to manage security vulnerabilities and promote adoption of best practices.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of professional experience in cyber risk management, vulnerability management, or IT security audits.
  • Proficiency with risk and control frameworks (such as NIST 800-53), risk assessment methodologies, and vulnerability scanning tools.
  • Excellent technical writing, research, and analytical skills with the ability to communicate complex information effectively.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification in risk and information systems control (CRISC) is highly preferred.
  • Experience in developing and documenting security architectures and strategic security plans.
