Job Description
The OSP Engineer
The OSP Engineer is responsible for network planning and engineering of all broadband networks to include copper and fiber optic networks. The Network Engineer-Fiber will also be responsible for project management of major engineering initiatives as well as generating detailed engineering documentation to support the installation, configuration, and ongoing operations of the network.
Breakdown of Responsibilities
- Provide expert-level design and engineering for major infrastructure projects.
- Perform engineering required to support customer service orders and serviceability requests.
- Review department processes and procedures for efficiency and makes recommendations to senior management for improvements.
- Maintain strong lines of communication with all staff, including management, independent contractors and field and office personnel, providing internal direction when necessary. Manages outside vendors, sources construction quotes and is integral to decision-making process for vendor selection.
- Design and draft system maps with new Commercial, MDU and Residential developments.
- Operate Auto-Cad, ArcGIS, and CrescentLink.
- Research new fiber mapping systems and makes recommendations to senior management.
- Perform system design, create BOM and provide construction quotes for requested projects. Provide updated system cable maps to all departments upon request.
- Complete design, drafting and permit drawings as required. Coordinates, reviews and approves of designs. Creates and verifies work orders in alignment with budget requirements.
- Provide advanced support for maintenance and troubleshooting of the OSP fiber optic.
