Job Description
Position Overview
A leading energy operator in the oil and gas sector is seeking a highly skilled Engineering Technician with demonstrated proficiency in WellStar to support a multidisciplinary engineering team. The ideal candidate will bring a strong technical background in well operations, regulatory documentation, and subsurface data management. This role requires hands-on expertise with well-planning software, a deep understanding of operational workflows, and the ability to collaborate effectively with engineers, field personnel, and regulatory teams. This is a key technical support position for ongoing well integrity, abandonment, and regulatory compliance initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Well Data Management & Technical Documentation
- Perform well reviews, data entry, and create detailed wellbore diagrams in compliance with AOR and UIC requirements using OpenWells, Profile, Microsoft Excel, and Visio.
- Compile, analyze, and organize technical materials for complex abandonment projects and intercept well justifications.
- Utilize cement calculation templates to meet CalGEM requirements, including volume determinations, abandonment plug design, and correlation of pumped volumes to validate cement integrity in both vertical and horizontal wells.
- Query, track, and report UIC project status using MS Access, providing clear updates to internal stakeholders.
- Ensure accuracy, completeness, and timeliness in developing and submitting regulatory reports.
Regulatory & Compliance Support
- Assist regulatory and compliance departments by tracking, preparing, and submitting well histories, MIT I & MIT II test documentation, and other required data through WellStar.
- Maintain detailed records of well operations in alignment with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.
- Support audits and compliance reviews by ensuring all documentation meets current standards.
Operational Support & Collaboration
- Work directly with engineers, field teams, and other key stakeholders to coordinate well operations and ensure alignment with project objectives.
- Monitor and verify the accuracy and quality of well data, operational inputs, and reporting outputs.
- Participate in operational meetings, providing technical insights and assisting with troubleshooting when required.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and help implement best practices across well operations, data workflows, and reporting systems.
Required Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Petroleum Technology, or a related technical field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience as an Engineering Technician or in a related role in the oil and gas industry.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency with WellStar and strong working knowledge of well-planning and data-management systems, including OpenWells, Profile, Microsoft Excel, Visio, and MS Access.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret well integrity data, operational reports, and technical documentation.
Professional Skills
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities related to well systems and technical software.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively across engineering, field operations, and regulatory teams.
- Highly organized, detail-focused, and capable of managing multiple priorities simultaneously.
Work Environment
- Requires travel to remote field locations as project needs arise.
- Occasional work in outdoor or rugged conditions.
- Must be able to work safely and effectively in both office and field settings.
Compensation & Benefits
- Hourly Rate: $28–$35 DOE, with overtime eligibility.
- Per Diem: Provided for field assignments.
