As the Head of the Banner Analytics and Insights team, you will play a central role in scaling enterprise-wide analytics maturity to drive data‐informed decision making across our organization – both in the newsroom and the business – connecting us to our local audience. You will drive and implement our strategy in collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data from various sources to provide valuable insights and recommendations. Your expertise in data analytics infrastructure, insights, storytelling, and people leadership will be crucial in guiding strategic and tactical decisions that influence the achievement of our goals and fulfillment of our mission, all while adopting a "player-coach" mindset.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and grow The Banner's analytics and insights capabilities, including supervising direct reports and providing day-to-day guidance.
- Foster a culture of data‐informed decision making, promoting analytics-driven continuous improvement and innovation.
- Lead the analytics strategy to support business and newsroom objectives through cross-functional collaboration and KPI development.
- Enhance the Data Lake and associated tools by overseeing tool selection, ETL processes, documentation, and ensuring self-serve data access.
- Provide actionable insights and recommendations based on data analysis to drive business growth.
- Drive data governance initiatives by establishing data quality standards and ensuring data accuracy and security.
- Collaborate with the Engineering team to optimize data infrastructure, systems, and tools for efficient data collection and analysis.
- Effectively communicate complex analytical findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
- Effective leadership skills with the ability to motivate and inspire a team.
- Fluency in data warehousing best practices, ETL, and querying large data sets (experience with AWS, Athena, Cloudwatch, Apache AirFlow, MWAA, PySpark, Github, Google Cloud Platform, SQL, Python, PowerBI, Tableau, Looker, and Google Analytics).
- Proven experience in driving testing and insights across customer acquisition, engagement, and retention.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- In-depth knowledge of statistical analysis, data modeling, manipulation, and data visualization techniques.
- Strong business acumen and the ability to connect data insights to overall business objectives.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills to translate complex data into clear insights.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Required Academic & Professional Background: Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Engineering, or Computer Science (Master's preferred) with a minimum of 10 years’ experience in analytics or a related field.
- Proven track record of delivering impactful insights and a strong understanding of data governance principles.

- Compensation: $150,000 - $190,000 with corporate performance bonus eligibility. Pay is determined by experience, internal pay equity, and other relevant considerations.
