Job Description

Position Overview

Call & Nicholas is an internationally recognized geotechnical engineering firm based in Tucson, AZ that provides consulting services to clients in the mining industry. Established in 1979 and proudly 100% employee owned, the firm employs engineers, geologists, and support staff. We are seeking an entry-level geological engineer to join our consulting group located in Tucson, AZ.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in editing and creating tools or programs for geotechnical engineering data collection and analysis (programming/coding).
  • Provide data collection support.
  • Perform rock fabric mapping and drone mapping.
  • Conduct oriented core logging (Televiewer, Reflex ACT III, TruCore) and geomechanical logging.
  • Collect geomechanical samples and process field data.
  • Carry out multiple forms of analyses, including:
    • Surface: Bench-scale, interramp, overall slope, and rockfall analysis.
    • Underground: Kinematic and empirical analysis.
  • Audit ground support designs.
  • Support the writing of technical reports and memos.
  • Foster strong client relationships both on and off site.
  • Assess risks/hazards, prioritize safe work practices, and follow safety rules and guidelines.
  • Participate in pre-task planning and report safety issues to the Project Manager or Principals.
  • Maintain quality standards on all projects and assist senior geologist/engineers on larger, complex projects.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in geological engineering, geotechnical engineering, mining engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 0-4 years' experience.
  • Ability to travel for field work, including up to 60 days at a time (domestic and international travel required).
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Computer literacy with proficiency in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Demonstrated experience with coding and programming, enhancing technical proficiency in geotechnical applications.
  • A safety-first mindset both in and out of the field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional registration is considered a plus.
  • Experience with MinePlan3d, Vulcan, or other 3-dimensional modeling programs.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD.
  • Experience with finite element modeling programs such as FEFLOW, FLAC3D, or FLAC2D.
  • Knowledge of the Rocscience suite of software.
