Hybrid Role: Must be on-site 3 days per week within a commutable distance. Emergency Response: Availability required to support DTE’s emergency response during storms or other service-impacting events.
Job Summary: Works independently and supports multiple project managers in designing, prioritizing, scheduling, and executing major construction and engineering projects. Responsibilities include initiating project scope, validating design schedules and cost estimates, conducting risk assessments, and chairing update meetings on scope, budget, and engineering progress.
Key Responsibilities
- Interface and serve as liaison to resolve engineering design issues.
- Manage engineering costs and project scope change control throughout the project lifecycle.
- Direct project scope initiation, develop preliminary design schedules and cost estimates, and conduct qualitative and quantitative risk assessments.
- Oversee design development from conceptualization through scheduling, analysis, installation, testing, and commissioning.
- Coordinate with various engineering teams to address issues during design and project execution.
- Review and authorize validated design packages including scope reviews, definitions, and estimates.
- Ensure design schedules remain on target while monitoring engineering costs.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to execute projects within scope and develop contingency plans for planned outages.
- Support project managers by incorporating design changes from permitting bodies and teams.
- Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements and provide certified drawings for permits.
- Chair scope meetings and provide updates on design status.
- Integrate project design with supply chain, vendors, and project management to ensure effective coordination.
- Provide technical support to project managers.
- Coordinate inspection activities for equipment fabrications.
- Collaborate to keep all engineering documentation updated and accurate for new construction and as-built records.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, engineering technology, or construction management.
- 6 years of experience in engineering, project management, or capital infrastructure projects.
- Ability to apply project planning, implementation, and/or continuous improvement principles to achieve positive outcomes.
- Competence in multitasking and managing multiple tasks, issues, or high-visibility projects.
- Ability to conduct effective meetings and manage meeting processes for optimal results.
- Flexibility in working with shifting priorities and evolving responsibilities.
- Proven ability to handle multiple demands with a calm demeanor under pressure.
- Initiative in proposing new ideas and challenging traditional approaches with sound alternatives.
- Broad understanding of power generation, transmission, distribution, and regional power dispatch.
- Intermediate-to-advanced analytical and project management skills.
- Strong consulting and influencing skills with an ability to build relationships and drive change.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in project and/or outage management in a utility setting.
- PMI/PMP (Project Management Institute) certification.
- Professional Engineer (PE) License.
