Position Overview

POSITION: Marketing Manager |DEPARTMENT: Pittsburgh Playhouse |REPORTS TO: Director, Marketing & Communications, COPA |WORK SCHEDULE: Remote work flexibility (Hybrid)

The Marketing Manager leads Pittsburgh Playhouse at Point Park University’s brand, voice, and reputation through strategic marketing, communications, public relations, surveying, Playbill creation and Ad sales, distribution of news, announcements, social media posts, as well as developing and executing strategy to increase ticket sales and audience engagement across the organization’s portfolio of venues. This role is responsible for recruiting, engaging, and managing a team overseeing marketing, PR and communications, social media, digital media, audience services, accessibility and events. The individual will coordinate efforts across all marketing functions and manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders throughout the entire campaign lifecycle, ensuring alignment with Point Park University’s goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead implementation of advertising campaigns and initiatives including content strategy, digital advertising, paid media, social media, CRM, direct mail, and promotions; design, map, and finalize the overall Pittsburgh Playhouse advertisement.
  • Manage implementation of email campaigns for both internal and external partners – overseeing sales strategy, design, execution, and scheduling.
  • Oversee marketing timelines and projects with vendors once the full-season plan is established.
  • Coordinate communication with artistic show management by compiling and organizing assets, program copy, bios, images, and other marketing materials in advance of each show.
  • Review and approve marketing materials for Resident or Visiting Companies, ensuring adherence to Pittsburgh Playhouse and Point Park University branding and style guides.
  • Develop and manage ticketing promotions, including strategy creation, promo code setup in Tessitura, and reporting/tracking of audience segmentation across campaigns.
  • Supervise key personnel including the Marketing Assistant, Graphic Designer, Box Office Manager, and Front of House Manager.
  • Oversee, mentor, and coach student employees and interns, providing experiential learning opportunities that support COPA enrollment objectives.
  • Manage program marketing budgets, including forecasting, ticket sales setup in collaboration with the box office, and the implementation of ticketing strategies, discounts/comps, and on-sale launches.
  • Project manage the execution of all print collateral, such as direct mail pieces, program books, and institutional print materials.
  • Collaborate closely with external and internal stakeholders to deliver touring theater productions, special projects, and revenue generation initiatives.
  • Attend performances/events as required and serve as backup for the Director of Marketing & Communications when needed.

  • Duties and Responsibilities:
    • Strategic:
      • Develop the marketing plan and support creation of the development plan with the Director, Marketing & Communications.
      • Collaborate with marketing and sales teams to develop and execute strategic sales proposals across multiple brand categories and product offerings.
      • Serve as the primary contact for marketing needs of Resident and Visiting Companies, ensuring timely collection of assets before public on-sale.
    • Operations:
      • Implement marketing plans including updates to websites and social media platforms.
      • Manage partnership deliverables (branding, signage, media, print, promotional elements) to meet quality standards and partner expectations.
      • Support the implementation of the development plan alongside the managing director.
    • Internal and External Communications:
      • Mentor students to support their experiential learning.
    • Resource Management:
      • Ensure marketing plans align with key stakeholders to craft effective strategy and messaging that drive patron engagement and loyalty within budget constraints.
      • Effectively monitor all Pittsburgh Playhouse revenue dashboards and reports.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience or demonstrated work in theatre marketing, communications, project management, copyediting, and/or related fields.
  • Experience with an arts organization or a demonstrated passion for the arts and higher education.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with colleagues, vendors, Resident partners, and Visiting Companies.
  • Experience in developing and managing budgets as well as hiring, training, developing, and supervising personnel.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously while focusing on organizational goals.
  • Strong leadership and analytical skills with the ability to collaborate effectively and motivate team members.
  • Proven experience in collecting and analyzing both quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with fundraising and/or ticketing databases.
  • A bachelor's degree accompanied by a background in marketing, public relations, and/or organizational management. (Fundraising experience is desired but not required.)
  • At least three years of marketing experience.
  • Demonstrated project management expertise.
  • Familiarity with best practices and techniques appropriate for arts organizations.
  • Understanding of patron loyalty principles in a seated events business environment.
  • Experience in strategic and internal communication.
  • Knowledge of business and financial management principles.
  • Proven experience in managing staff, volunteers, and vendors.
  • Proficiency in computer literacy, advanced MS Office, email platforms, and the Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Experience with Tessitura and/or other CRM software is highly preferred.
