The ERCOT Engineer Development Program (EDP) is a 12-16 month initiative designed to equip entry-level engineers with the skills necessary to quickly become productive power engineers. EDP engineers gain hands-on experience in ERCOT’s modeling groups through mentoring, training sessions, field trips, and special assignments across 15 areas of study.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitors the implementation of changes, additions, and updates to the ERCOT Transmission Grid and associated network models.
- Analyzes transmission network data including Transmission Element parameters while collaborating with ERCOT System Operations, Support teams, and other stakeholders.
- Works with load flow and other analysis software to provide accurate power system models and associated cases.
- Supports detailed model changes delivered by Network Operations Model Change Requests (NOMCRs) to maintain an accurate Network Operations Model.
- Validates databases and tests models along with associated power flows.
- Maintains and supports database infrastructure, model data exchange interfaces, and data export formats.
- Represents the ERCOT ISO at the ERCOT level and coordinates with the Network Data Support Working Group (NDSWG) on data exchange and transmission network model maintenance via the NOMCR process.
- Reviews and develops methods to increase model accuracy including data comparisons and validity checks.
- Evaluates contingencies, special protection systems, and various plans or outages that may affect models.
- Drafts and presents changes to the Protocols, Guides, and procedures supporting ERCOT modeling.
- Develops, enhances, and maintains reports related to Protocol and Guide compliance criteria.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Qualifications: Functional/Technical Skills, Problem Solving/Analysis, Planning, Decision-making/Judgment, Quality, and Communication (Verbal, Written & Presentation Skills).
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, or six years of applicable experience.
- Experience Required: Less than one year of progressively responsible experience in the electric utility industry (beyond degree requirements).

- Location: Taylor, TX – Employees are required to be on-site in Taylor at a minimum of 2 days per week, with the option to work on-site more than the required days.
- Schedule: Flexible on-site schedules or rotation based on business needs; remote work must be performed from your Texas residence.
