Job Description

Position Overview

For one of our ongoing long-term multiyear projects we are looking for a Desktop Support Technician based in Milwaukee, WI (locals preferred but remote work is possible for the time being this year). This role provides 3rd level (expert/advanced) technical assistance in support and preparation of desktop applications and hardware.

The incumbent will handle escalated support issues from an internal help desk, serve as a mentor to other desktop support staff, and independently perform a variety of desktop-related tasks. Creativity, self-direction, and solid judgment are essential for achieving project goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert-level desktop support and serve as the escalation point from the internal help desk.
  • Mentor and guide other desktop support staff in troubleshooting and issue resolution.
  • Package desktop applications (both off-the-shelf and in-house developed) via a ticket-based request system, including evaluation, licensing research, and documentation of installation steps.
  • Plan and execute independent desktop tasks as well as lead assigned projects with a high degree of creativity and self-direction.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 4 years of experience in a Desktop Support position.
  • Extensive knowledge of Windows desktop operating systems, desktop applications, deployment tools (e.g., SCCM, LANDesk, MDT), x86 desktops/laptops, and peripheral devices.
  • 5+ Years of experience with Remote Desktop and Management Tools (as noted by multiple experience requirements).
  • Demonstrated experience in Technical Writing and Documentation, Analytical/problem solving skills, and Customer Service (minimum 3+ years in each area).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with application packaging and support using MSI tools such as Wyse or InstallShield.
  • Proficiency in Scripting and use of other desktop automation tools.
