Job Description
Position Overview
The Marketing and Communications Officer is appointed by and serves at the pleasure of the Commissioner of Public Works. Responsible for planning and implementing marketing, social media, communication, and media relations campaigns for The Hop, the City of Milwaukee’s Streetcar System, this role supports branding, creative communications, and community engagement. Candidates passionate about working on inclusive public service initiatives are encouraged to apply.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead communications, marketing, and branding efforts for The Hop, including short and long-term initiatives.
- Design and produce DPW branded materials and oversee the production of advertisements and print materials.
- Develop, allocate, and monitor the marketing budget; make media buying decisions and recommend strategic improvements.
- Represent The Hop as the DPW spokesperson at public meetings, media events, and community engagements.
- Manage digital presence by maintaining and updating The Hop’s website and social media platforms.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations or a closely related field.
- At least four years of progressively responsible experience in marketing and communications project management.
- Valid driver’s license at the time of appointment and throughout employment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior related experience in public transportation.

- Compensation: $90,291 - $105,223 (with additional resident incentive range of $93,000 - $108,380; appointment above the minimum possible based on experience).
